Originally founded in 1792 as the Polytechnic School,  the modern version of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020. A cornerstone of Brazilian higher education and recognized as the top federal university in Brazil by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (2022), UFRJ is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world.

The UFRJ offers 172 in-person undergraduate programs, 200 specialization courses, and 132 graduate programs on four campuses and numerous locations in Rio de Janeiro and Macaé.
