The reading of the book “Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology” was moderated by researcher Dr. Clarice Aiello from the Quantum Biology Institute
Pioneer Science invited those interested in Quantum Biology to participate in its Book Club, which was moderated by researcher Dr. Clarice Aiello, an international reference in the field. The project had five online weekly meetings, held between January 23 and February 20. At each meeting, two chapters of the book “Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology” were discussed, with participants keeping up with the reading.
The book addresses how quantum processes, such as superposition and tunneling, influence biological phenomena, such as photosynthesis and the orientation of migratory birds. More than a scientific discussion, the Book Club is an opportunity to broaden intellectual repertoire in a collaborative environment, promoting connections between scientists and enthusiasts in the field.
The initiative reflects the mission of Pioneer Science to contribute to the development of frontier science in Brazil.
Why watch?
The Pioneer Science Book Club is an opportunity to expand your scientific repertoire in a collaborative environment, with the participation of a network of scientists dedicated to innovation and knowledge. Another important reason relates to the potential that discussions can have to transform the way we understand and study life.
About Clarice Aiello: Quantum engineer interested in how quantum physics informs biology at the nanoscale. She specializes in nanosensors that leverage quantum effects of room temperature in noisy environments. Her research group, the Quantum Biology Tech (QuBiT) Lab, will conduct quantum measurements on “living sensors,” such as proteins, cells, and microorganisms, to understand how they interact with their environment.
