Sobre

Biomedicine graduate and PhD in Pharmacology, both from UFRJ, with Neuroscience as his main area of work, focused on electrophysiological techniques and intracellular calcium measurements. Early in his academic career, he worked with patch clamp, studying new cholinergic receptor ligands and the influence of neuronal activity on the expression of these receptors in primary cultures of murine neurons. Today he works with extracellular recordings on microelectrode arrays (MEA) in neural spheroids derived from induced stem cells, focusing on the influence of psychoactive compounds on the maturation and plasticity of neural networks.

About the research:

Seeks to understand the short- and long-term influence of psychedelics on neuronal activity and connectivity. To this end, we use MEA recordings of neuronal cultures derived from induced stem cells and analyze the patterns in these recordings with a convolutional neural network (CNN), aiming to identify “signatures” of each drug and drug class.
