B.S. in physics from Unicamp and a Ph.D. in physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), followed by postdoctoral work at Imperial College London. Currently a full professor at UFRJ, his research explores quantum optics, quantum mechanics, and open quantum systems. He has active international collaborations with research groups at UFMG and in Australia, France, Italy, Spain, England, and Singapore.
